Garbage-powered power plants to be constructed
The construction of two-power plants that will be powered by garbage was initiated by President Maithripala Sirisena at Karawalapitiya earlier today (10).
The excess of garbage and lack of recycling plants prompted the government to initiate this project.
The Karawalapitiya plants will make garbage a resource to the country utilizing state of the art technology utilized in developed countries to promote effective waste disposal and environmental well-being.
It has been reported that KCHT Holdings Lanka Jang and the Western Energy Institute have made a combined investment of 27 billion Rupees for this project.
Reports have confirmed that one plant of this project will contribute 10 megawatts to the National Electricity grid. Additionally a garbage disposal center will also be established in Puttalam.
